Time Zones
I had to make a chart to get organized and find the best times when I would be able to call my family. The +13.5 hour difference from California to here in Pune makes it tough to connect in the middle of either day - I’ve found that 8:30 PM IST is the best time to have my dinner so that it is lined up with 7:00 AM PST breakfast. That is the best opportunity to connect. I try to have no meetings at that time. I have one meeting in that window today, which I hope to wrap quickly. Then the Brazil / Croatia quarterfinal will be on and I will get on the phone with my family and we will watch together.
There is a quiet window in India from late morning until the work day begins at the office at 2:30, where my family is asleep and my colleagues are not at the office yet where I experience the greatest quiet and stillness that I have felt in years. The first couple of days, especially with being tired, it was actually quite lonely and difficult. I am learning to make use of the time to write, work, or prepare for the afternoon.
All part of the process.
